Deleting your data

Draft - this document is being reviewed and may change before PaalChat opens to the public.

How to have data deleted from PaalChat. Applies from [date].

If you messaged a business that uses PaalChat

The business you messaged controls your conversation. Ask them to delete your data - they can do it in PaalChat, and must answer under the Data Protection Act. If you cannot reach them, write to privacy@paaltech.org with the business's name and your phone number, and we will pass your request on and make sure it is handled.

To stop receiving messages, reply STOP.

If your business uses PaalChat

  • Your customers' data: erase a contact and their messages through the API (Data requests), which can also export it first - or write to support@paaltech.org and we will do it for you.
  • Your whole account: an owner can ask us to close the account by writing to support@paaltech.org from the owner's email address. We confirm, then delete your business's customer data within 30 days, and your account data except what the law requires us to keep (for example invoices).

If you connected Facebook or WhatsApp through PaalChat

When your business connected its WhatsApp Business account, Meta gave PaalChat an access token for it. Disconnecting WhatsApp in PaalChat deletes that token at once. You can also remove PaalChat's access in Meta Business Settings under Integrations. To have everything else deleted, follow the steps above.
